Event Details

Meet James Ashton of the Sunday Times. . .

James Ashton of the Sunday Times will be joining us at Fullrun's Talking Shop in central London on the evening of Tuesday 10th March.

Ashton joined the Sunday Times business section from the Daily Mail to take over Paul Durman's TMT beat in October 2007. (Because of the way the Sunday Times structures its beats, Ashton's formal job title is Media & Telecoms Editor).

Ashton's telecoms stories cover all of the bases you'd expect: mobile and fixed line; handset manufacturers -- and occasionally infrastructure.

But tech coverage is visible, too: during the past year, Ashton has filedpieces on Satyam, Autonomy, MessageLabs, Tiscali, HP and Google. There have been additional stories on underwater stock options and smart meters. . .

Ashton graduated from St. Andrews University in 1997.

What is Talking Shop?

Talking Shop is an informal networking event for PRs, marketers and journalists working in the tech and telecoms sector.

These events provide PRs and marketers with valuable opportunities to understand (a) what journalists want and (b) how best to deliver it. For journalists, the benefits include better-targeted pitches from the PRs and marketers who attend.

Fullrun has been staging these events in central London since 2004. The format is simple: an hour's networking (with wine), followed by a talk or roundtable discussion and, well, more wine and conversation. During the course of the evening, story pitches can and do happen, so come prepared. . .

The list of publications represented by editors and journalists at Talking Shop includes the Economist, the Financial Times, the Times, the Guardian, Channel 4 News and BBC Online.

Fullrun's Talking Shop attracts attendees from most of the major agencies based in London and the Thames Valley that specialise in tech and telecoms.
